Arrangements vs. Compositions

What’s the difference?

A composition is an original piece, made up entirely by it’s creator.  An arrangement is a pre-existing song, written by someone else, but “arranged” in a way that it can be performed by a specific ensemble. The majority of arrangements on these pages were created specifically for four part a Capella ensembles looking to sing the barbershop style.

Most of the songs listed were made famous by popular artists of their time.
